"Home of The Bulldogs"
The Orleans Community Schools serves over 860 students in two buildings K-6 and 7-12. The district provides an outstanding academic curriculum as well as a full program of music, art, drama, and athletics. This is all evident by the numerous State level championship awards in various academic fields. The Orleans athletic department fully supports all of the sports programs for all grade levels, developing a sense of pride, dedication and teamwork that has warranted many team and individual athletic achievements. Orleans Elementary School was recently name as a Four Star School. To earn the distinction, a school must be accredited by the Indiana State Board of Education, meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as defined by The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), and perform in the top 25 percent of all the schools in the state in each of the following four areas: student attendance rates, mathematics proficiency scores, English/language arts proficiency scores, and the percent of students passing both English/language arts and mathematics. The annual award is non-monetary and schools earning this honor receive an award certificate. Orleans Jr. Sr. High School was recently name as a Best Buy School. High schools that have excelled academically while providing good value for Hoosier tax dollars were recognized by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce with the release of the ninth edition of the Indiana’s Best Buys report. In addition, from the best buy group, 31 high schools were given the “honor roll” distinction for excelling academically despite having at-risk student demographics above the statewide median. For their exemplary efforts, the top three schools from the best buy and honor roll lists were then selected as “head of the class” members. Orleans Jr. Sr. High School is proud to be among this elite “head of the Class” group. A multi-million dollar renovation and addition was recently completed at the Orleans Elementary School. In the spring of 2008 a renovation and addition project started at the Orleans Jr. Sr. High School. The district's motto, "Pride, Tradition, Excellence," truly reflects the community's opinion of their schools.
